Career Summary
After graduating from the University of Queensland (UQ) in 1995 with a Bachelor (Hons I) in Materials Science, I worked for 6 years with the CSIRO in Melbourne on Fuel Cell Technology.
I developed many of their basic materials specifications and gained a lot of experience in a variety of different engineering materials and materials processing techniques.
I then travelled and worked overseas throughout England, Ireland, Canada and Russia, before returning to Australia in 2004, whereupon I took up a job with the Australian Submarine Corporation (ASC) in Adelaide. I worked on the maintenance for 6 COLLINS Class diesel boats, concentrating on cost and efficiency savings, as well as pushing improvements to existing systems.
In 2007, I moved to Germany for a position within Jenoptik GmbH in Jena, working on materials issues associated with the development of Extreme UV light sources for the semiconductor manufacturing industry. The work was mainly the development and construction of prototype machines and ancilliary equipment, and the materials issues related to the exacting conditions under which they must operate. We also worked in conjunction with PHILIPS EUV, our partner company in Aachen.
Currently, I have a role with EVONIK, developing the next generation of Li-ion batteries, for automotive applications. I am researching ways to boost the energy content and improve performance, but also looking at the large scale production and quality control of the relevant component pieces.
